If you’re like me and prefer to shop in the comfort of your pajamas, you probably have a whole set of favorite online stores. However, did you know you can actually earn money by shopping online? Simply starting your purchase at an “online shopping portal” will reward you with cash back or frequent flyer miles. This is one of the fastest ways I earn a little extra for my vacation fund!
Many websites that refer you to online retailers earn a commission on each sale that is generated. Online shopping portals also do this, but return a portion of the commission back to you, basically depositing an extra 1-20% of your purchase into an online account you can withdraw. That adds up to real money, so it literally pays to take the extra step.
To claim your money, you’ll need to set up an account at your choice of online shopping portal and then simply search for the store you wish to shop from and click the link from the portal website. That’s it — your visit will be tracked and the money will be in your account after your purchase is complete (some stores are near-instant, some take up to 90 days to ensure you don’t return items).

Citi: Thank You Shopping

Mr. Rebates: One of my favorites because they seem to offer rebates where others may not (including American Airlines, JetBlue, and a whopping 15% currently at IHG hotels)
ShopAtHome: Some of the highest cashback rebates available; when it’s not, you can apply for a 110% “best rebate” price match guarantee
TopCashBack: Cash out with no minimum (other sites can require $5-20 in rebates before being paid)
Wandering Aramean: Set up by a fellow blogger, this is travel-focused and a great way to earn cash rebates for airfare, hotels, and some sightseeing tours.
Combine these rebates with a rewards-earning credit card and some great sales, and hopefully you won’t break the bank.
Please be advised that the use of coupons and other discounts might exclude you from being eligible to receive your shopping portal bonus. As a rule of thumb, usually coupons advertised on the retailers page (i.e. Free Shipping for orders over $99) will not negate the bonus but targeted offers emailed directly to you will. I always start at a shopping portal, just in case, but don’t be surprised if your order doesn’t qualify if you used a great coupon.
Some of the cashback sites include referrals to me if you join using my link. I appreciate your support of this blog.
